Adaptations to T Level Technical Qualifications Summer 2021 Series - Core Component Assessments.

Following discussions with the Institute and Ofqual, we’re now able to update you on the agreed approach to adaptations for the Core Component assessments for the following T Level Technical Qualifications for the Summer 2021 Series:

  • Digital Production, Design and Development
  • Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction

There are no changes to the content to be assessed, the design/structure of any of the Core Component assessments or the controls for taking the assessments for both T Level Technical Qualifications.

Providers should continue to deliver the content within the specifications.

All students taking the same version of a Core Component assessment will still to do so simultaneously.

We believe Providers are best placed to make decisions about whether their students should be entered for assessments. However, Providers should only enter students for the Core Component assessments if they are confident that enough teaching and learning has been completed and students are ready to take the assessments.

Students should take the assessments in a later assessment series (e.g. November 2021) if they haven’t completed the required teaching and learning, or the assessments (even adapted) cannot be taken.

Student entry for the Core Component Assessments will still be made as a single entry, as per our Key Dates Schedule and Entry Process.

The Core Exams will take place on the scheduled exam dates as per our Key Dates Schedule.

Digital

  • 11 June 2021 - Core Paper 1: Digital Analysis, Legislation and Emerging Issues
  • 16 June 2021 - Core Paper 2: The Business Environment

Construction

  • 14 June 2021 - Core Paper 1: Science and Building Technology
  • 16 June 2021 - Core Paper 2: Construction Industry and Sustainability

Students who are ready to take the assessments should be entered to sit the exams on these dates.

If a student is unable to take one of the Core Exams on the scheduled dates as a result of disruptions caused by Covid, Providers will be able to apply for Special Consideration for the exam the student was unable to sit.

If a student is unable to sit both Core Exams on the scheduled dates as a result of the disruptions caused by Covid, they will be given a further opportunity to access the exams again in a mop-up session in the same series. We will update you on the dates for the mop-up sessions as soon as these are agreed.

Please note: Students are not permitted to be entered for the mopup session; this is an adaptation and is only available if students were unable to take both Core Exams in the initial sessions.

If a student is unable to access one of the Core Exams via the mopup session, Providers will be able to apply for Special Consideration for the exam the student was unable to sit.

For detailed guidance on how the adaptations apply for the Core Exams, please refer to our Summer 2021 Adaptation flowchart (PDF | 36KB)

The following adaptations will be made to the Digital Employer Set Project:

The window for completing individual tasks will be extended by two weeks to give Providers greater flexibility in planning and managing assessment, should they need it.

If a student is unable to take the Employer Set Project (even following the adapted approach), they will be able to take it in a later assessment series (e.g. November 2021). There is no further opportunity for students to take the core project within the existing assessment series.

For detailed guidance on how the adaptations apply for the Core Exams, please refer to our Summer 2021 Adaptation flowchart (PDF | 36KB)

The following adaptations will be made to the Construction Employer Set Project:

The window for completing individual tasks will be extended by two weeks to give Providers greater flexibility in planning and managing assessment, should they need it.

For Task 3, which has a set date/time, Providers will apply for Special Consideration for students where there are short-term absences.

Please note: Students will be able to continue with the rest of the tasks within the Employer Set Project, as the outcome of Task 3 does not impact on any subsequent tasks.

If a student can take both Core Exams and the Employer Set Project within the summer 2021 assessment series, we will issue their Core Component result on TQ Results Day.

If a student is only able to take part of the assessments that make up the Core Component (e.g. one or both Core Exams, and/or the Employer Set Project) we will issue the result for the completed assessment(s) on TQ Results Day. This is to enable Providers to decide if a student needs to be entered for a resit opportunity for that assessment(s) in the November 2021 series.

Please note the re-sit rules state that if a student is re-sitting the Core Exams, both exams must be re-sat in the same series.

These are the currently agreed adaptations for Summer 2021 for these T Level Technical qualifications. We will continuously review the level of disruptions to teaching, learning and assessment collaboratively with the Institute and Ofqual. If necessary, further adaptations will be agreed and will be communicated to providers as soon as decisions are made.

As always, please contact us via our Support Portal if you have any questions and a member of the team will be happy to help. Further support will be made available through a webinar for 2020 Providers. We will update you on the date for the webinar via our monthly T Level updates.
