The document includes announcements of some important upcoming changes that will affect those providers delivering traineeships. The following are key changes that are outlined in this document:

  • The entitlement to traineeship funding is extended from 1 January 2015 to 19 to 24 years who possess a full level 2 qualification. This brings provision for this age group into line with learners of 16 to 18 years.
  • There will be an increased emphasis on outcome in future. The funding agencies will publish new definitions for apprenticeship and sustainable job outcomes from traineeships. For 19-24 year old learners, further study will be considered to be a positive outcome dependent on the type of qualification.
  • From the academic year 2015-2016 the requirements for work preparation training and work experience will exist for all learners between 16 and 24. Providers will therefore have the flexibility to choose to use accredited provision where it is appropriate for the learner rather than it being necessary to claim funding.
