Nigel brings a wealth of experience having taught for 32 years, the last 14 of which he acted as headteacher of two different 13-18 comprehensive schools in Suffolk.  He left headship to take up more work in examining as well as working with the National College for School Leadership, the Eastern Leadership Centre, the TDA, publishing and acting as a School Improvement Partner in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Nigel has been involved in examining work for 34 years (25 years as a chair of sciences). He began his examining work in 1983 with JMB and in 1992 became Chair of Examiners for GCSE sciences (modular and coordinated) for NEAB after working as a chief examiner for integrated science.  On amalgamation of NEAB and SEG in 2000 Nigel moved on to become overall chair of GCSE sciences at AQA, a position he relinquished in 2017.

Nigel joined Pearson in the role of Overarching Chair of A level and GCSE sciences in October 2017.  Nigel says ‘I am delighted to be working for Pearson Edexcel and hope to help further develop the growing reputation of the organisation in terms of the quality of the assessments we provide and the support that we offer to teachers at a time of significant change’.
