Update about the May 2015 C1 Controlled Assessment
We have been contacted by centres through Ask the Expert and made aware that there are concerns about the 2015 C1 Controlled Assessment Task.
Centres have expressed concern about the cost, as well as the appropriateness of using some solid fuel tablets, available commercially, in this task. The investigation is about the relationship between the masses of small pieces of solid fuel burnt and the rises in temperature they produce in samples of water.
In order to give you sufficient choice of solid fuels, you might consider the use of corn starch snacks (e.g. onion ring snacks) as the solid fuel.
Remember that it's your responsibility as a centre to carry out risk assessments for Controlled Assessments and to trial the investigation before use with candidates.
