Under the modular scheme, at the end of two years, controlled assessment briefs (CABs) had the final assessment session in January. So we’ve reorganised the availability of CABs and extended the shelf life of two for the transition period.

Modular only
The May 2010 CAB, ‘Upcycle Now’, still expires in January 2013 because it is only being sat by candidates who are completing the modular GCSE.

Modular and linear
To support the switch from modular to linear the two CABs that will be taken by both modular and linear candidates have had their lives extended. This is to support centres offering the course over a three-year period.

However, as we announced when the change to linear GCSE was confirmed in December 2011, to support candidates taking the May 2011 CAB, ‘Get Up Get Moving’, we changed the expiry date to June 2014. Only modular candidates should enter in January 2013 or June 2013.

Candidates taking the May 2012 CAB, ‘Community Spirit’, can submit work in June 2013 (modular candidates only), June 2014 and June 2015.

Linear only
The CAB we release in May 2013 (and those we release in subsequent years) will only be available to linear candidates and will be available for two summer sessions, starting two years after its release. For example, the May 2013 CAB will be available for assessment in June 2015 and June 2016.
