Withdrawal of Edexcel Certificate qualifications in French, German, Spanish and Chinese
We're withdrawing our Edexcel Certificate qualifications in French, German and Spanish after the summer 2017 exam series, and in Chinese after the summer 2018 exam series.
In January 2015, the Department for Education (DfE) confirmed that only GCSE qualifications in French, German and Spanish will count in performance tables from summer 2018, with Chinese following from summer 2019.
Subsequently, Nick Gibb (Minister of State for School Reform) announced that it won’t be possible to redevelop the current Level 1/Level 2 Certificates in French, German and Spanish for inclusion in performance tables from 2018 onwards (2019 for Chinese). Read his announcement here.
Once the Edexcel Certificates no longer count in performance measures, they will also cease to attract funding. As a result, the qualifications can no longer be offered to schools. We're therefore withdrawing our Edexcel Certificate qualifications in French, German and Spanish after the summer 2017 exam series, and in Chinese after the summer 2018 exam series.
