Test changes for Level 3 Pearson BTEC in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Professional Cookery) (QCF)
We’ve changed the tests for the Level 3 BTEC in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Professional Cookery) (QCF), so that they only cover one unit each.
The questions are still based on the same content and the number of questions is proportional: for example, if a test covering two units had 40 questions, it is now likely that each test has 20 questions each.
The changes are in response to Ofqual regulation 1.9, which states that all units must be capable of assessment independently of any other unit. Currently, with combined tests, learners may meet all assessment criteria relating to one unit but fail to meet the assessment criteria in the second unit. This would result in a unit fail and the learner would need to retake the test again. This is deemed over-assessment and creates a disadvantage to the learner.
The changes were implemented on Friday 13 December. We are looking to make similar changes to the Level 2 Hospitality and Catering Principles pathways in February or March 2014 but will confirm a date in January.
