Update on BTEC Level 2 Firsts and BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Vehicle Technology (QCF)
Read on for the latest on our new BTEC Vehicle Technology courses.
BTEC Level 2 Firsts in Vehicle Technology (QCF)
The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate and Diploma in Vehicle Technology (QCF) are accredited and have been operational since 1 February 2012. Please be aware that the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Technology (QCF) has an operational start date of 1 April 2012. The accredited specification is available on the website.
Delivery pre-16
These qualifications are regulated by Ofqual, but are not currently available for pre-16 learners. The Department for Education (DfE) froze Section 96 as part of the implementation of Professor Wolf's recommendations around changes to the performance tables. No qualifications accredited after July 2011 for pre-16 use could be approved.
Once the qualifications that will be counted in the headline measures in the performance tables were established, the DfE planned to open up Section 96. These headline measures qualifications have now been confirmed, so we expect the Section 96 freeze to be lifted shortly. Unfortunately we do not know the exact date when this will happen. Once the freeze is lifted, the BTEC Vehicle Technology qualifications above will become available for pre-16 learners.
These qualifications will not contribute towards the headline measures for the 2014 performance tables.
Delivery 16-18, and 19+
The qualifications are regulated by Ofqual and will be eligible for both 16-18 and 19+ funding, and should be on the LARA database shortly.
BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Vehicle Technology (QCF)
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma have been approved and have been operational since January 2012. The accredited, pre-publication draft specification is available on the website.
