The new qualifications are:

  • BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Vehicle Technology (QCF) - (600/4854/2)
  • BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Vehicle Technology (QCF) - (600/4342/8)
  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Technology (QCF) - (600/4341/6)

Start dates

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate and Diploma both have an operational start date of 1 February 2012. The BTEC Level 2 Certificate has an operational start date of 1 April 2012.

Delivery pre-16

These qualifications are regulated by Ofqual, but are not currently available for pre-16 learners. The Department for Education (DfE) froze Section 96 as part of the implementation of Professor Wolf's recommendations around changes to the performance tables. No qualifications accredited after July 2011 for use pre-16 could be approved.

Once the qualifications to be counted in the headline measures in the performance tables were established, the DfE planned to open up Section 96. These headline measures qualifications have now been confirmed, so we expect the Section 96 freeze to be lifted shortly. Unfortunately we do not know the exact date when this will happen. Once the freeze is lifted, the BTEC Vehicle Technology qualifications listed above will become available for pre-16 learners.

These qualifications will not contribute towards the headline measures for the 2014 performance tables.

Delivery 16-18, and 19+

The qualifications are regulated by Ofqual and will be eligible for both 16-18 and 19+ funding and should be on the LARA database shortly.
