Online Live Training Events

We have recently run two very popular and well subscribed training events. One on Level 1 Introductory qualifications and one for our popular Workskills and Personal Growth and Wellbeing programs.

Miss them?

Good news we have the links available for you to watch on playback below:

We also had some questions asked at the events which we think together with the answers would be useful to share with you.

Workskills and Personal Growth and Wellbeing training event questions and answers

You just do that through Edexcel Online and in terms of the unit content you would adjust your teaching accordingly.

If you just pick Unit 2, Developing Job Application Skills, that's fine. Not a problem in that at all. You only need one unit to teach the subsidiary award.

You can say okay, we've done the award there, we'll need to re-register them on another level and do a harder level qualification for the next award. That's often the most suitable way of doing it.

However, you've thought, well, they're going to do Unit 2 (a new unit not previously submitted) so let’s try them on level 2, and actually, when they're handing in their work, they're Level 1, you can re-register them without them being penalised.

That's absolutely fine. But try not to use the same units, because that's really not developing your learners, it's not ideal.

Level 1 Intro training event questions and answers

No there isn't it depends on the number of hours available to them for each course. You may be restricted to 3 in the first year only if you are a new centre.

They are exemplar briefs, not official as such (like the AAB’s) and they can be found on the teaching and learning page of each of our individual level 1 intro pages. For example, Applied Science teaching and learning materials.

It helps, and sometimes it's easier to have somebody who knows how introductory Level 1 works, rather than a subject specialist. Sometimes it's easier to have a subject specialist rather than somebody who knows how internal, our introductory Level 1 works. As long as it is not yourself internally verifying the units you are delivering its fine and your choice as to who you think would be best.

The unit grade is decided by the lowest, grade in the criteria. If we are looking at A2, you might have a Merit for the first one, you might have done a good progression goal, you might have done your skills and behaviours, which is a Merit, and then you might have done a really basic plan, which has put you down on a Pass.

Now, unfortunately, as it stands, that unit grade would be a Pass, because that is the lowest. However, you should then use the resubmission process. If that learner is capable of Merit in the first two, they're probably capable of Merit in the second one, and something's just gone a little bit wrong.
