The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has confirmed that learners who have achieved the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention Skills (600/0070/3) are exempt from the Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry unit (R/600/6303) contained within the Level 2 Award in Door Supervision and the Level 2 Award in Upskilling Door Supervisors.

Please note that this is subject to the standard SIA requirements relating to use of previously attained qualifications in licence applications, i.e.

  • For first-time licence applications, the qualification must have been achieved less than three years prior to the application.
  • For licence renewal applications, the qualification will be accepted even if it is over three years old, unless there has been a gap greater than three years between holding licences (a gap may be due to expiry or revocation of the previous licence).

Centres can claim the unit as usual and must retain a copy of the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Physical Intervention Skills certificate, within the candidate portfolio, as evidence that may be sampled by the Standards Verifiers as part of the usual quality assurance process.
