Pearson Edexcel AS level qualifications 2021
The cancellation of the 2020 summer exam series means students that were preparing to sit their GCSEs have not only missed out on their learning, but have also missed the experience of actually sitting an external assessment. For most students this would have been their first exam day experience, and their next opportunity will be their A levels - but is that the right time for them to find out how it feels?
At Pearson we appreciate that exams can be a stressful time for many students. To help students build experience and an understanding of the expectations from an external assessment, you may be considering entering your Year 12 students for AS level exams in 2021, in preparation for their path to A level.
Taking AS level exams will enable students to build valuable exam experience, help them understand their own exam day needs, and help them manage their exam day nerves.
With an external assessment series under their belts, students will have a better understanding of exam techniques, time management and their own personal strengths and weaknesses in an exam setting.
AS grades provide opportunities for students to gain UCAS points and offers a ‘fallback’ option if they find that the A level subject is not for them.
Our free ResultsPlus and Access to Scripts services help you after the AS exams to gain insights from the AS students’ performance, analysis on progression and help you to provide appropriate support and intervention.
You can also offer your students another assessment opportunity in Year 13 with our Mocks Service (dependent on subject) providing you with further evidence of progression and intervention opportunities before the 2022 A level exam series.
Support for planning
For schools and colleges who would like to enter students for AS exams, we have brought together our existing support and created new support and resources for AS level to help you and your students.
The AS subjects below are entirely co-teachable with the A level subject. To help you plan we have provided:
a Course Planner, to clearly show you which content to cover in Year 12 and Year 13
Schemes of Work to help prepare for a co-taught course.
And, because these AS and A level subjects are co-teachable, all of the content you cover will support your students in their A level learning too, whether you make AS entries or not.
Help your students bridge that gap between GCSE study – but no exam series – and move on to A level study and A level exams with greater confidence.
NEW free Year 12 Baseline Tests
To help prepare your students for study in Year 12, we’ve produced free Year 12 Baseline Tests for our most popular A level subjects. These tests will help you identify any gaps in learning caused by loss of teaching and learning time and support all your students.
