Dear colleagues,

Welcome back, I hope you had a relaxing break and are refreshed for the new academic year.

For those of you new to Pearson Edexcel and the languages updates, my name is Rebecca Waker and I am your Subject Advisor. Having taught Spanish and French in a variety of schools myself my role is to support you with the delivery of our languages qualifications. I'm here to answer your questions and provide the support that you need. At the bottom of this page you will find my contact details and you can book a one-to-one call on Microsoft Teams if you'd prefer to chat things over.

This update is full of everything you might need for the start of term including post-results information and services, upcoming training, support for home, heritage and community languages and more.

Best wishes,
Rebecca Waker, Subject Advisor for Languages.

For French, German and Spanish this is the last year of teaching for the 2016 specification. For most schools this will mean that only the year 11 classes are preparing for this specification, those taking their exams in 2026 will follow the new specification.

For all other languages there are no changes and the current specification will continue.

Exam Insights

Welcome to Pearson

Home, Heritage and Community Languages

In the summer term I let you know that I was looking for feedback on our support for Home, Heritage and Community Languages (HHCL). I really appreciate all the teachers who took the time to email or meet with me to talk about their experience with offering these languages.

This summer I have put together a collection of support guides and videos based on what I heard during this feedback.

We've also heard that there are resources you would find useful such as additional training for teacher-examiners, crib sheets, and example questions and we are hoping to be able to provide more of this kind of support in the future.

We'd really like to support and encourage centres offering students the chance to take a GCSE in a HHCL, so please do get in touch with me using the details at the bottom of this page.
