July 2026 Geography Subject Update
This update contains useful information, news and advice for Edexcel Geography teachers including information to help you get ready for results day.
Key Dates
Summer 2026 question papers are now available to download securely from our website. To access them, you’ll need an Edexcel Online account - please contact your Exams Officer to set one up. We will be releasing mark schemes and examiner reports on the following dates:
- AS / A level mark schemes will be released on 14 July 2026.
- GCSE / International GCSE mark schemes will be released on 21 July 2026.
- AS / A level examiner reports will be available on our website from 18 August 2026.
- GCSE / International GCSE examiners reports will be made available on our website from 25 August 2026.
- You will also be able to download GCSE and A level examiner reports from results day via ResultsPlus.
Summer 2026 results will be issued on the following dates:

We will be making recordings of events available for teachers who can’t attend.
Reform of the national curriculum and GCSEs
A public consultation on the draft programmes of study and subject content for the first group of GCSEs will launch in September. The revised curriculum will be published next spring, with support available ahead of first teaching from September 2028. The first reformed GCSEs will then be taught from September 2029.The expertise of the geography community will be central to shaping these reforms. By working together, we can help ensure the changes support great teaching and learning for years to come. We'll share more details on the consultation and how to take part when it opens.
The DfE has not confirmed yet which phase GCSE Geography will be in, but if GCSE Geography is included in the first group of subjects, it is worth starting the conversation in your departments now about what you would like the future qualification to look like. What should be retained, strengthened, reduced or changed? Is the balance of content right? How should fieldwork, climate change, sustainability and geographical thinking feature in the next generation of qualifications? The greatest opportunity to influence reform comes before draft specifications are published. So take some time to reflect, discuss these questions with colleagues, and be ready to make your voice heard when the consultation opens. First teaching may still be several years away, but the decisions that shape the new GCSEs will be made much sooner.

Summer 2026 student surveys for GCSE and A level Geography
We are keen to hear from Edexcel Geography students about their experiences of studying our qualifications and sitting exams this summer. We’ve created two surveys and we’d be grateful if you could encourage your students to complete them before the end of term to help give us more insight into our qualifications and assessments. In the past we used similar surveys with students and got some fantastic feedback which helped feed into our GCSE Geography assessment improvements. We will also share some of this information in training events.
