April 2015 work-based learning and colleges update
This month's update includes information on the Apprenticeship framework, the Care Certificate and new qualifications.
Health and Social Care Apprenticeship framework England
Modifications to SASE came into effect on 6 April 2015. The changes only relate to the Transferable Skills requirements of a framework and only apply to new Apprenticeships starting on or after 6 April 2015. Apprenticeships started before this date must continue to meet the 2013 SASE requirements for Transferable Skills.
The modifications removed the '5-year rule', meaning that acceptable qualifications achieved before September 2012 are now in scope. This includes International GCSEs, A and AS levels, O levels and Key Skills. However, there are still minimum grade/level requirements that need to be achieved, depending on the level of Apprenticeship being undertaken.
The Care Certificate
The Care Certificate became mandatory in April 2015 and has replaced the common induction standards and the National Minimum Training Standards.
Materials to support employers in preparing the certificate, including the revised standards and guidance and a mapping document to the Health and Social Care Diploma, are now available.
New Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care
Our Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care will be available in May 2015.
The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care has been specifically designed for learners who work in health and social care in adult settings and want to develop their skills and knowledge in order to demonstrate competence.
This qualification has been developed by Skills For Care and is 70 credits and a minimum of 479 guided learning hours.
