Briefs assessing technique

The briefs assessing technique for A level Music will be released online on the specification page in time for candidates to complete the task from 1 April. These must be completed in 6 hours of controlled conditions.

Candidates are able to use score writing programmes or DAWs for the briefs. However, there must be no internet access, and any plugins that can identify consecutive 5ths and 8ves must be disabled. Candidates will also need to input the given material for the brief into the programme during the 6 hours.

Candidates that attempt the Remix option are reminded that they must use the whole stimulus material in their work. If they don't they are limited to 1 mark on grid 4. If the stimulus is manipulated to the point it's hard to detect it, this can be noted on the authentication sheet to make sure the examiner is aware.

Submitting NEA for 2026

Submission of the NEA components must be made by 15 May 2026. This will be via the Learner Work Transfer portal. You will need to digitally upload files for your candidates. The administrative support guide gives details of how to present the work for the examiner.
