May 2024 Maths and Statistics Update
Dear Colleagues
In this month's update, we have a spotlight on exam preparation with resources designed specifically to support students in the final stages of their revision.
As teachers, we know that supporting our students isn't just about question practice and revision aids. Maths anxiety and exam stress is a significant issue for many. Often, the most impactful support is that which is focused on student wellbeing.
That is why, in addition to the exam preparation resources for each qualification below, we have collated some practical tips and resources for teachers to share with students as they prepare for their maths exams.
Includes links to exam stress and wellbeing support, along with a 3 week plan and handy "what if?" guide for students.

Recorded Training Session: GCSE Maths Exam Preparation Hints and Tips
Here you can find the recording for our event on 24 April that looked at supporting examination groups. Themes covered included managing exam anxiety through to key revision resources to support the final preparations towards the exams.

Perfect for those last few revision lessons. This set of practice papers are specifically designed to support students in working towards their target grade.
Includes

Command Words Poster
A useful poster of the most commonly used command words used in GCSE Statistics and what they mean.
A Level Statistics
A Level Statistics Mapping Document
This document maps the 9ST0 A Level Statistics specification to other related Pearson specifications, including 1ST0 GCSE Statistics, 9MA0 A Level Mathematics, 9FM0 A Level Further Mathematics and 7MC0 Mathematics in Context. It also provides mapping to relevant content in each of the textbook resources for these other specifications.
Maths in Context (Level 3 Core Maths)
Teaching Support for Source Booklet
Supporting materials to assist in the analysis of data from the Source Booklets for 2023 and 2024 are now available on the Maths Emporium.
These supporting documents are intended for classroom use only and include a collation of the tables provided in the source booklet adapted for better use within excel.
Topic Based Worksheets
Perfect for some targetted revision to support students in addressing any gaps before the exam.
These are worksheets including exam-style practice questions and questions in context in both word and PDF formats. The PDF version includes worked examples for each section.

Getting Ready To Teach Event

This event is to introduce and familiarise those who wish to deliver Mathematics in Context (Level 3 Core Maths).
In this session delegates will:
• get an overview of the specification, including a review of the content
• review key questions from the SAMs
• review the resources available to support the delivery

The latest funding update released from the Department of Education has confirmed that schools and colleges will be able to receive £900 in funding for each student studying core maths in their first year of study.

Calling all FE Maths colleagues / Post-16 Maths teachers.
