June 2024 Maths and Statistics Update
Dear Colleagues
In this month's update we are putting a spotlight on the amazing work being done at The Royal School Wolverhampton and how they improved their A Level results to 46% A*-A, 80% A*-C with Pearson Edexcel.
As the exam season begins to draw to a close, our thoughts turn to the next academic year and what qualifications will best serve the needs and extend the range of opportunities available to our students as they move into the next phase of their education or the workplace.
Therefore, in this month's update we have lots of information for anyone interested in learning more about the following qualifications:

Brookfield Community School is one of the largest co-educational schools in Hampshire and has been offering Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9–1) Statistics since 2017.
We spoke to Vicki Brunink, Learning Leader for Maths, who discusses her experience of teaching GCSE Statistics at the school and how delivering GCSE Statistics helped to embed maths knowledge, boost confidence and improve outcomes for their students.

In this session, Mark talks us through the GCSE Statistics qualification from Pearson Edexcel and shows how to get the most out of the qualification. Mark discusses who the qualification is aimed at and how it can be successfully delivered in your setting

This event is to introduce and familiarise those who wish to deliver Pearson Edexcel's new Level 2 Extended Mathematics Certificate.

• review key questions from the SAMs
• review the resources available to support the delivery
• dive into the Scheme of Work and how this qualification can be taught alongside existing maths qualifications.

The latest funding update released from the Department of Education has confirmed that schools and colleges will be able to receive £900 in funding for each student studying core maths in their first year of study. Mock Set 3 for AS Mathematics 8MSA0 is now available for centres to download. Mock Set 3 is under silver padlock in the exam materials section of the qualification page which can be accessed using the link below:
Supporting the transition to A Level
The transition from GCSE to A level Maths can be challenging but, with plenty of practice, it most certainly is a rewarding experience.
These free videos focus on activities which help students to master the key skills that are needed in both AS and A level Mathematics. The topics are mainly those found in the overlap between GCSE and AS mathematics.
Each chapter contains between 10 and 15 videos for students to watch, along with a downloadable PDF of example questions, practice questions and end of chapter exam questions for consolidation.
