This set of editable quizzes are designed to support students with AO1 knowledge and understanding of the key features and characteristics of the periods studied.

The quizzes use a variety of question types including short answer questions, true/false, matching exercises, ranking or ordering exercises, concept maps, completing tables, and selecting single or multiple answers from a list.

Their purpose is to help students embed knowledge and build confidence, and we hope that these quizzes will be accessible to a wide range of students.

You will need an Edexcel Online account for any padlocked files, and your Edexcel Online administrator at your centre will be able to help you should you have any problems with your account.

Edexcel A level History Paper 1 and 2 teacher survey

Last month we ran a survey asking Edexcel A level History teachers what they think about the current Paper 1 and Paper 2 topics and routes. The survey is open until the end of January so if you haven’t already done so, we’d be grateful if you could spend a couple of minutes giving us your views. Your answers will help inform our thinking about the options we offer in a future Edexcel A Level History qualification.

Principal Examiner vacancy - A level History (9HI0 03)

We are currently looking for a new Principal Examiner for A level History Paper 3. The Principal Examiner is responsible for overseeing the standardisation of examiners on specific options, ensuring that the standards of externally assessed components are maintained and are consistent with the unit specification and assessment criteria. This specific vacancy is for option 37: The changing nature of warfare 1859-1991 and Germany 1871-1990. The closing date for this application is 30 January 2026 at midnight.

Ofqual consultation for on-screen assessment

Ofqual has launched a consultation on proposals for how on-screen assessment should be regulated in GCSEs, AS and A levels in England. Whilst they propose a controlled introduction of on-screen assessment, pen-and-paper will remain central to most exams.

As teachers working directly with students, you understand their needs and the challenges this proposal may present.

Your opinion counts. The consultation closes on 5 March 2026. Please take a look and have your say.

SHP Developing Teachers Online Conference

The Schools History Project are running an online developing teachers conference on Saturday 31 January 2025, featuring a keynote lecture by Dr Sarah Longair on embedding material culture in your curriculum: why and how. Alex Fairlamb will also be running a session on scaffolding for success in History which will outline the importance of teaching to the top to ensure that all students succeed.
