Edexcel AS and A level History specification amendments

Issue 4 of the A level History specification and Issue 5 of the AS level History specification are now available on our website.

Both specifications are for first teaching September 2026, and for first assessment June 2027 (AS level) and June 2028 (A level). You can find a summary of the changes at the start of each specification.

The minor amendments comprise the following:

• corrections
• clarifications
• exemplifications
• wording changes to align with current editorial guidelines
• changes to punctuation that might affect interpretation of taught content
• other editorial changes (capitalisation, italicisation, other punctuation).

To support you with understanding the changes, we are providing guidance documents showing the marked-up changes that might affect teaching: one document for each Paper 1/Paper 2 route (AS and A level) and one document covering all the Paper 3 options (A level).

The guidance documents detail the rationale behind each of the amendments, other than the editorial changes that won’t affect teaching (capitalisation, italicisation, punctuation).

There are no amendments to the Sample Assessment Materials, as the assessment model is unchanged.
