Updated non-examination assessment authentication sheets for all English qualifications
All awarding organisations have updated the information about the use of AI for non-examination assessment on their authentication sheets to ensure that the rules are clear to both students and teachers.
The new authentication sheets must be used for all submissions from 1 September 2026.
All English qualifications that have coursework, or the spoken language endorsement, or both:
- GCSE English Language 1EN0
- GCSE English Language 1EN2 (2.0)
- Entry Level Certificate NEN0
- A level English Literature 9ET0
- A level English Language 9EN0
- A level English Language and Literature 9EL0
- Int GCSE English Language A 4EA1 (linear)
- Int GCSE English Language A 4XEA1 (modular)
- Int GCSE English Language B 4EB1 (linear)
- Int GCSE English Literature 4ET1 (linear)
You should download the word versions which you will find under ‘forms and administration’ on each qualification’s page. You can print and complete the form by hand or download and complete digitally before adding to your learner work transfer (LWT) scans when you submit for the November of June exam series.
We are in the process of changing the specifications, but this is a large task that will be completed over a number of weeks. You must not use the ‘old sheets’ in the specifications. We are ensuring that all other guidance contains the link to the updated form/s immediately.
On the website, all forms are flagged with the wording ‘includes AI declaration from September 2026'. The forms also have the most recent light purple Pearson branding.
All coursework/SLE submissions for the June 2027 exam series must be made on the new authentication sheets. Failure to use the updated sheets will be treated as malpractice. Moderators receiving ‘old sheets’ will contact centres requiring that they submit the new forms signed by both candidates and teachers.
If you are making submissions for the November 2026 exam series and have already completed the ‘old’ authentication sheets, we will accept them as an exceptional arrangement.
November 2026
We will accept 'old' NEA sheets.
May/June 2027
You must submit the new NEA sheets.
If you have already filled out the full sheet (old), you may attach a new sheet to the old and fill out the top boxes and get it signed by teacher and student. You do not have to transfer all the other teacher notes (title/teacher summative comments/mark breakdowns for coursework).
The marks awarded must be completely clear for your moderator and you must ensure that the information on the old and the new match (candidate details and marks).
The declarations on the new sheet must be signed.
Please note, the SLE authentication sheets have no teacher commentary or mark details (other than ticking the grade descriptors), it is therefore likely to be easiest to complete the new sheet and discard the old.
November 2027 and thereafter
Only completed new sheets will be accepted.
The 'old' sheet also included an AI declaration, so schools should already have a process they use to monitor the use of source material including any material generated using AI for the SLE.
You must:
-Explain the rules to students and show them the declaration that they will need to sign before they start preparing their SLE presentations.
-We recommend informing parents of the rules and the steps that you will take if there are any doubts about the authenticity of a student’s work. These include comparing the presentation to examples of the student's work and a discussion of the content of the presentation with the student to assess familiarity with the arguments presented during the assessment.
-Students should present information about their sources (where used) to you in writing before they are assessed.
-Students are not expected to orally reference their sources during the assessment.
-Centres are not required to submit the references that a student has provided but the assessing teacher must see these in order to be able to sign the teacher declaration on the authentication sheet.
Teachers are not expected to retrospectively review sources for students who have already been assessed, but future SLE assessments must be undertaken in this manner.
We will update the Administrative Support Guide for the SLE to include the guidance above.
