BTEC Tech Award Performing Arts Guinness World Record
1,123 dancers. 43 schools and organisations. One new World Record!
On 20 March 2026, young dancers from across the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man came together at Bartercard Odsal Stadium in Bradford to make history.
Performing live alongside DJ Sigala and vocalist Shanice Steele, they set a new World Record for the largest number of backing dancers performing with a singer, surpassing the previous record of 993.
Among them were students studying the BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts (Dance), who had the opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom, apply their skills and be part of an unforgettable experience.
A brilliant example of where vocational skills, confidence and ambition can take you.
Stay on track with key BTEC dates, deadlines and milestones throughout the year. The guide also includes links to guidance, training, events and support resources to help you plan ahead and stay informed.
We recommend bookmarking the guide and sharing it with colleagues involved in qualification delivery.
Deadline:13 November 2026

Written and co-edited by independent cultural consultant, Rachel Mapplebeck, the Freelancers’ Handbook includes insights and practical guidance for the estimated 30% of the cultural workforce operating as freelancers.
The handbook is a cornerstone for freelancers and includes chapters on:
- ‘How to grow your network and win business’ by Rachel Mapplebeck;
- ‘Peer Support Networks: Why they matter and how to find yours’ by Leila d’Aronville;
- ‘Fair Play: Overcoming barriers in the cultural sector’ by Caitriona Shoobridge;
- ‘Promoting mental health and equality for freelancers’ by Dr. Furaha Asani.
Both the Freelancers’ Handbook and the accompanying live Resources Directory of opportunities, funded programmes, and skills development training are evolving, collaborative resources to be refreshed periodically with feedback from the freelance community.
The Green Book
Theatre Green Book is a global industry-wide initiative to work more sustainably in response to the climate crisis.
It is a free resource and network for everyone in the performing arts, working in any role and at all scales, to support the transition to net zero. It provides a framework for planning, best practice guidance, a measurement system and shared standards.
It provides accessible, practical guidance, toolkits and case studies created by theatre makers and sustainability experts on how to shift to a circular economy model, decarbonise and become more sustainable across Productions, Buildings and Operations – all without compromising artistic vision.
We bring together all shapes and sizes of theatres, operas, dance and performing arts organisations and the freelancers that power them to support each other through a ‘network of networks’. We provide opportunities for peer learning, knowledge exchange, collaboration and innovation. And we work with arts and culture climate colleagues to advocate for support and change. We are independent and led by the sector, for the sector.
