Here is your February 2024 update with all the latest news on our GCSE and A level Drama and Theatre qualifications.
In this update you will find information on:
Component 2 examiner update
GCSE Drama (1DR0/02) and A Level Drama & Theatre Studies (9DR0/02)
The assessment of Component 2 is now well underway with most centres having made contact with their allocated examiner/s to arrange either the visit or the digital submission.
The Learner Work Transfer platform is open and fully operational.
Please be aware that the entry deadline for UK centres is 21st February; the entry deadline for International centres is 21st March..
Component 2 text submission form reminder
All centres are required to submit their Component 2 text choices via the Text Submission Form at least 6 weeks prior to the planned assessment date. The final submission date is the 8th March 2024.
One form should be submitted per school/college. You can list the texts for your whole cohort on one form. Responses will be stored and can be cross referenced against examination responses to ensure that centres have complied with the requirements of the specification and subject criteria.
You can find the performance text submission form on the qualification page, with updated approved and unsuitable texts lists for A level Components 1 and 2.
Administrative Support Guides (ASG) UPDATED
We have updated the ASGs to ensure it's clear that each student must complete one Communications of Intentions sheet for each extract in Component 2.
The Administrative Support Guides provide all the up to date information you need for all three Components on the qualification, including:
- Key dates for the academic year
- Requirements and important information for each Component
- Submission processes for Comps 1 and 2
- Link to the Live Theatre Evaluation Confirmation Form
- Using Learner Work Transfer (LWT)

AI Update for Component 1
We have updated the GCSE and A Level Component 1 NEA Authentication sheets; there is now reference to AI in the Teacher Declaration.
If you have already assessed and completed the Component 1 NEA Authentication sheet for students certificating in summer 2024, you do not need to complete this new form. If you haven't yet completed the assessment, or are going to start the assessment of students completing in summer 2025, please use the new version of this form.
Music and Drama Education Expo 2024
The Music and Drama Education Expo is taking place on 22nd and 23rd February 2024 at the Business Design Centre in London.
I will be there on Thursday 22nd so please come and visit me on the Pearson stand. I'll also be giving a talk on the future of Level 2 and 3 vocational qualifications in Performing Arts, Dance and Production Arts.
