Practical Evidence Portfolio (PEP)

We've designed the Practical Evidence Portfolio (PEP) for learners to record their engagement in continuing professional development, reflective practice and evidence of improving skills and development of early years practice.

The PEP allows the learner to show good practice, emphasising how important reflective practice is in their role as an Early Years Practitioner. Once completed, the PEP will demonstrate how learners have developed a set of skills, practice and knowledge in specific settings and shown consistency in assessing their practice across all their placements.

The PEP has been designed around four forms:

CPLD 1 Self-assessment of work skills (PEP pages 9 to 52): learners will complete this form over the period of their practical training. They will not be required to address each skill for every age group.

The CPLD 1 will contribute towards evidence for Unit 11 Reflective Practice

CPLD 2 Learner self-assessment: meeting the unit assessment criteria (PEP pages 53 to 60): learners must reflect on their own performance against relevant practical assessment criteria within each unit. Learners will complete one form for each unit where practical competence is assessed.

CPLD 3a Supervisor interim/final report (PEP pages 61 to 64): these are completed by the placement supervisor. In total, learners must have a minimum of six of these completed forms in their PEP (two for each placement).

CPLD 3b Assessor visit/observation report (PEP pages 65 to 68): these are completed during placement visits, as appropriate, each time a learner is visited. In total, learners must have a minimum of six of these completed forms in their PEP.

You can download specification, PEP and guidance documents on our new BTEC Level 3 Nationals in CPLD page.
