July 2024 BTEC update for Business, Applied Law, Enterprise and Marketing

28 June 2024

Welcome to this July 2024 update.

In this last update of the year there is a reminder of what you might do to prepare for results day, especially with regard to the permissions in your Edexcel Online user profile.

The update also includes exam timetables for 2025 and future funding information for the BTEC Nationals.

When the end of term finally comes, I hope that you are able to enjoy a restful summer break.

Key dates

5 July Deadline to make BTEC claims for summer 2024 certification. Late claiming fees could be incurred for Level 3 qualifications after this date.
15 August Level 3 Results Day: release of Level 3 results to learners.
22 August Level 2 Results Day: release of Level 2 results to learners.
2 September Tech Award: release of Pearson-Set Assignments for internally assessed components
26 September Deadline for Review of Marking or Moderation (RoMMs) applications for PSAs and external assessments.
18 October Tech Award: entry deadline for PSAs and Component 3 exam.

Getting ready for results and results days

You must make all BTEC certification claims for learners expecting to receive a result in August 2024 by 5 July. This includes BTEC Tech Awards where you should make a certification claim by submitting a cash-in by the 5 July.

If claims are made after the 5 July, we can’t guarantee that learners will receive results on time. For any late claims made for BTEC Level 3, where learners are still expecting a result in August, you may be liable for a £100 administration fee per learner registration that misses the claiming deadline.

You may wish to check your access rights in your Edexcel Online account so that you can access the information you need on results days.

Results files and their contents are confidential to the Head of Centre, examinations office staff and senior members of the teaching staff at the centre. Therefore, the Edexcel Online ‘Results’ profile is only granted to these roles, as it allows access to results files on Wednesday results days.

Other teachers that need access to view results should be given ResultsPlus access, as this is designed to meet the needs of teachers to view and analyse the results for their own students. Results are available through ResultsPlus for teachers on the Thursday results days.

You may also wish to ask your Exams Officer to tick 'Exam viewer' in your Edexcel Online profile in case you want to download candidate scripts from results day (having obtained the candidates' consent first).

The Access to Scripts service allows you to view your candidates’ marked scripts online or download as PDFs for exams such as Unit 3 on the BTEC Nationals in Business. [For set tasks like units 2, 6 and 7, your Exams Officer will have kept a copy in centre so this service does not apply].

The portal can only be accessed by Edexcel Online users who have the 'Exam Viewer' profile ticked on Edexcel Online. Your exams officer gives teachers access to 'Exam Viewer'.

Please note that these scripts do not contain examiners' annotations.

If scripts have been marked 'traditionally' (i.e. not online), you will need to request them, free of charge, by the published deadline, via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series.

Candidate consent is required before requesting script copies and can only be obtained after results have been published.

ResultsPlus is an online results analysis tool that gives you a detailed breakdown of your learners’ performance in Pearson Edexcel exams and set tasks.

ResultsPlus provides detailed analysis of your learners' performance and will help you to identify potential topics, skills and types of questions where students may need to develop their learning further. You may find it helpful to understand how your learners’ performance compares with class and Pearson Edexcel national averages and to gather some insight data that may support effective teaching and learning approaches.

The BTEC Bitesize BTEC Tech Award in Enterprise videos

These videos cover Components 1 and 2, breaking each component down into the five tasks required in the PSA with suggestions to help prepare learners for each task.

The terminal assessment rule requires learners to take the external assessment at the end of their qualification (when the learner is due to certificate). This means that learners must sit internal component assessments either prior to or in the same series as the external assessment to fulfil this terminal rule.

If a learner chooses to retake an internal assessment in a series after they sat the terminal external assessment, they will also need to resit the external component to satisfy the terminal rule.

Learners are allowed one resit of the external assessment within the programme.

If you have learners expecting a qualification result in August, you need to claim certification by submitting a cash-in code by 5 July. If you don’t submit a cash-in code, then learners won’t receive an overall qualification result in summer.

The cash-in code for Enterprise is CEN01.

The BTEC Works site can help with recruitment of learners.

The Special Consideration Service is a new online tool to submit and track special consideration requests for BTEC First and National qualifications. This service opened in early January, which means your Exams Officer will no longer complete any paper JCQ Form 10 applications.

Your Exams Officer will be able to track the receipt and processing of special consideration applications for BTEC Firsts and Nationals. All special consideration requests for general and vocational qualifications in summer 2024 will be processed through the Special Consideration Service.

The Level 2 and 3 Reforms

The post-16 Level 2 vocational qualifications landscape in England is undergoing a significant reform.

To keep you informed, we have created a dedicated webpage providing an overview of the reforms, detailing what we know so far, and explaining the implications for you and your post-16 Level 2 curriculum.

This page provides an overview of the reforms and will be updated as and when new information becomes available.

As part of the Level 3 Vocational Qualification reforms we would like to invite you to help influence the next generation of BTEC Nationals. We want to ensure we capture the teacher and learner voice in our qualifications and support materials.

This is your opportunity to have your say and get involved.

Although too early for Business-related qualifications we do have two new pages where new AAQ and technical qualifications will be featured.
