Flexible Funding greater choice and availability of qualifications
An update on The Skills Funding Agency’s funding of qualifications for the unemployed, showing a selection of those qualifications that we think would be useful for flexible funding.
What is flexible funding?
The Skills Funding Agency’s funding of qualifications for the unemployed gives more freedom to local areas to determine what the best provision is to gain work is.
Will more qualifications be funded for unemployed learners?
Yes, during the academic year 2016/7 there is much provision now available that was not available during 2015/6. This includes qualifications of different sizes to give full flexibility of programmes.
All of the qualifications that were funded for unemployed learners in 2015/6 are funded again, this was announced earlier in the year. More recently we have received details of additional qualifications that will be funded for 2016/7 that were not funded previously. The tables below give details of some of the extra qualifications that are funded for 2016/7 that were not funded for 2015/6.
It is not a complete list, but a selection of those that we think would be useful for flexible funding unemployed provision to give ideas. The full information is on the qualifications hub.
What are the biggest changes?
Some significant changes that relate to Pearson qualifications are summarised below:
• Workskills is now showing as funded including level 2 and the small 3-credit awards. Therefore centres are able to choose the level and size that best suits the learners. (NB funding for the new version is expected to be the same)
• There is now a much fuller offer at Entry level 1 in the area of Personal and Social Development
• Customer Service and Business Administration principles are now funded at award size
• IT users can now be delivered at level 2 as well as Entry and Level 1
• There are additional, shorter qualifications available that would help to prepare learners to work in social care, health, transport and cleaning.
