However, on 28 June the DfE announced that due to Ofqual’s decision to give post-16 students a final opportunity to re-sit the current GCSEs in English, English language and mathematics in summer 2017:

we will also apply these same rules for to IGCSEs and equivalent level 1/level 2 certificates counting towards the EBacc measure. This will mean that IGCSE and equivalent level 1/level 2 re-sits throughout the 2016/17 academic year will also be approved for teaching under the 16-19 Maths and English condition of funding, and resulting achievements will count towards the new progress measure.”

19+ learners

In 2016 to 2017, IGCSEs and equivalent Level 1/2 certificates in English and maths counting towards the ebacc measure will continue to be:

  • approved for teaching under the condition of funding for English and maths for learners aged 16 to 18 funded by the EFA
  • English and maths legal entitlements for learners aged 19 and above funded by the SFA.
