We’ve also shared commentary to help you understand this year’s patterns:
We publish this final data every autumn, once most students have completed their qualification for the year.
What the data tells us
BTECs continue to offer pathways into further study and work. They build confidence, practical skill and sector understanding to help students thrive in higher education, apprenticeships and employment. Around half of Level 3 BTEC students progress to higher education, while many others move directly into work or further training. Students who have achieved their BTEC this year are many of the future healthcare professionals, engineers and construction workers who are vital to the UK’s economy.
Here are some of this year’s headlines:
Level 1/2 BTEC Tech Awards
- Health & Social Care, Sport, Enterprise, Digital IT and Music remain the most popular subjects.
- This is the second year of full results for these qualifications.
- In 2025, our guiding principle is to maintain the performance standards set in 2024.
Level 2 BTEC Firsts
- Business, ICT and Applied Science are the most popular subjects.
- Entry numbers continue to decline on this legacy qualification as schools transition to newer qualifications, including the 2022 BTEC Tech Awards.
- The First Award (120 GLH) remains the most popular size.
- Year-on-year comparisons require caution due to changes in cohort size and profile.
Level 3 BTEC Nationals (2016 RQF)
- Business, Health & Social Care, Applied Science, Sport and IT remain the most popular sectors.
- The Extended Certificate (360 size) continues to be the most popular qualification size.
- Entries and outcomes are broadly stable compared with 2024.
Thank you
Students should feel immensely proud of what they’ve achieved this year. And we extend our sincere thanks to every teacher, tutor, lecturer, leader, parent and carer for helping learners move forward with confidence.
