New BTEC Nationals Sport Qualifications 2019
We’re delighted to announce 4 brand new BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Sport suites, available to teach as early as this September. They’re geared towards exciting, fast-growing areas of the sport industry, and have all been developed to meet industry standards, giving learners the best possible chances at a successful career.
What makes these qualifications special?
These new sport qualifications:
are mapped to industry standards, in some cases allowing direct opportunities into employment
have been developed with the help of professional bodies, employers and Higher Education to prepare learners for work and university. The qualifications attract UCAS points.
are internally assessed
contain some larger units (180 GLH) allowing for holistic assessment delivery mirroring a real world environment

Yes, the CIMSPA practical assessment requirements. Please refer to the essential assessment information in the specifications. In short, any practical assessment that is mapped to the industry standards has specific assessment requirements.
Yes, for the Sporting Performance and Excellence qualifictions there are some requirements and restrictions. You can find further information in the supporting document and relevant specification.
Yes, there are additional centre staffing requirementsneeded for the Sport, fitness and Personal Training qualifications as well as those selecting unit C2 in thePearson BTEC Level 3 National in Sporting Excellence and Performance.
Yes. The qualifications will be eligible for 16-19 study programme funding. They will also be eligible for 19+ Advanced Learner Loan funding. The funding hub will be updated with 16-19 funding confirmation by the 19th September. 19+ Advanced Learner Loan funding will be confirmed on the funding hub by the third week in October, and on the SLC application portal by the end of October. Once added to the funding hub, the qualifications will show as eligible for funding from their start date (i.e. 1 September 2019). The qualifications are not eligible for 19-23 level 3 entitlement funding.
No, the qualifications are not on performance tables.
Yes, they are part of the reformed Pearson BTEC Level 3 National qualifications suite and attract the same UCAS points as all other qualifications in the suite.
Yes, we will be withdrawing BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Fitness Services for new registrations from 1 sept 2020. Please note this only applies to this Tech Level Diploma size qualification, and the rest of the BTEC Nationals in Sport remain unaffected.
