Pearson BTEC qualifications are developed and validated in partnership with educators, employers and government to ensure content reflects the needs of a job market. Our qualifications combine academic knowledge and practical application, which allows learners to progress to higher education or go straight into employment. Each Pearson BTEC qualification comprises a variety of units, which are broken down into specific learning aims. These are assessed and graded internally by tutors, then externally verified by Pearson.

About Pearson BTEC Uzbekistan qualifications

Pearson is working with the National Agency for Project Management under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NAPM) to deliver specialist work-related BTEC qualifications.

These new BTECs have been designed and developed specifically for Uzbekistan after extensive consultation with international and local employers. This means that the BTECs cover the practical skills and underpinning knowledge that employers in Uzbekistan are looking for. Each qualification is available in both Uzbek and Russian.

Like all Pearson BTEC qualifications, these new qualifications have been developed using rigorous, internationally recognised standards and extensive consultation with employers.

In addition to developing BTEC qualifications, Pearson has consulted with employers and industry bodies across Uzbekistan to develop a set of National Occupational Standards, which defines the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected of job roles within the industries. These new BTEC qualifications fully align to these National Occupational Standards, with the confidence that a successful learner completing these qualifications will be equipped with the essential skills expected by employers in the industry.

The main purpose of these qualifications is to enable learners to progress into employment upon successful completion. These qualifications reflect the knowledge, skills and competencies that employers actively seek when recruiting for the relevant job roles that these qualifications will lead to. The qualifications have been constructed to align with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), allowing international employers to easily understand the level of achievement. Built into these qualifications are also transferable and higher cognitive skills, providing learners with the tools to apply their learning to solve problems outside their subject area. These ‘core skills’ are vital for learners to develop and progress in work and are benefit if they continue onto education.

If learners wish to continue studying into higher education there are alternative progression opportunities available. We have consulted with universities in Tashkent about these qualifications, and they are supportive of our work in Uzbekistan. Learners wanting to pursue a route into higher education should first contact their university of choice to discuss the opportunities available and specific entry requirements.

For example, the Foundation Diploma qualifications at Level 4 would need to be supplemented with other qualifications in order to provide sufficient credits or learning hours for entry to university.

The Uzbekistan BTEC qualifications are internationally benchmarked in terms of level of demand and content. The benchmarking process has looked at equivalent provision in high-performing jurisdictions including the UK and Germany.

The qualifications are part of the BTEC suite which is international and recognised in 70 countries.

Most of the qualifications are designed at Level 3 or 4 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). EQF Level 4 equates to Level 4 of the Uzbek Qualifications Framework and Level 3 of the UK Qualifications Framework.

Pearson can support portability of the qualifications with further progression and recognition work should this be required (i.e. approaching universities/employers where students may wish to progress).

Currently, Uzbekistan does not operate a National Qualifications Framework (NQF). These qualifications have been designed to align to the levels of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). It is anticipated that Uzbekistan will implement an NQF in the future, most likely using the same or similar level descriptors to the EQF. When that happens, we anticipate these qualifications will map seamlessly to the new framework.

We are planning to develop more qualifications in 2020, subject to approval, and will then engage with local employers and industry to define the professions the qualifications should be developed for.

The BTECs available in Uzbekistan have been developed using rigorous, internationally recognised standards and extensive consultation with international and local employers. This means that the BTECs cover practical skills and underpinning knowledge that have been designed specifically for the context in Uzbekistan. Each qualification is available in both Uzbek and Russian.

Teacher and student materials support the delivery and practical nature of the assessments. These include: workbooks, textbooks and guidance on how to plan the delivery of the course. 

Pearson has consulted with employers throughout the development of occupational standards and qualifications. Employers welcome and support the work we are doing in Uzbekistan to provide quality education through vocational qualifications, and equip the current and future workforce with the skills and competencies required to be successful in their careers. The colleges have good relationships with local employers, and they will be working with the colleges to support them in the delivery of the BTEC qualifications, and where possible to provide work experience opportunities.

Yes. For each qualification that a learner passes they will receive a certificate detailing the name of the programme, the level and the units taken.

For Pearson BTEC Uzbekistan qualifications at Levels 3 and 4 students must successfully complete the Assessment Workbooks in each unit to achieve the qualification and be awarded a BTEC certificate.

For Pearson BTEC Uzbekistan qualifications at Level 5 and 7 (Business subjects) students must complete and pass an Assignment in each unit to achieve the qualification and be awarded a BTEC certificate.

 

Yes, students are allowed one opportunity to retake a unit should they fail first time.

Certificates need to be claimed at the end of the programme by the BTEC Administrator and after all units have been verified by the Pearson Standards Verifier. It takes about a month for the certificate to be delivered to the college.

Please contact your college. The person responsible for administration of the Pearson BTEC programmes will arrange a replacement certificate. 

About teaching and quality assurance

The assessor is the teacher or instructor. They set any assignments and then mark or assess these against the learning aims and assessment criteria in the course specification.

The Internal Verifier (IV) is a subject expert within the teaching team who ensures assignments are fit for purpose before they are given to students, and that the student can complete the task set. The IV also samples the completed and assessed student work to ensure that assessment decisions are accurate, consistent and that they have been recorded in the student’s assessment records.

Anyone involved in the delivery and assessment of the programme can be an Internal Verifier, but you can’t internally verify your own assessment. 

The Exams Officer – or administrator – is our point of contact for administration of the Pearson BTEC programmes delivered in a college. They’re responsible for ensuring that learners are registered on time and correctly, and play a vital role in making sure that the assessment process runs smoothly so that students get their certificates on time.

The Quality Nominee is our point of contact for quality assurance at a college. They are responsible for ensuring effective management of BTEC programmes and actively promoting good practice within the college. As they are involved in monitoring and supporting the teaching teams, the Quality Nominee usually has responsibility for the BTEC curriculum in the college. 

Standards Verifiers are subject specialists whose job is to confirm that:

  • colleges are assessing students to the standards outlined in the specification
  • processes for internally verifying assessment decisions are effective 
  • colleges are accurately recording assessment and internal verification decisions.

The SV will contact each college and RGSBM when it’s time to arrange the visit. 

Each college will have two visits in the year: the first visit will take place after the first 3 units have been completed, and the second at the end of the programme of the first year.

This is something that can be considered as the qualifications become more established, but colleges would need to fund this themselves, and have the necessary language skills.
