Recordings of Pearson Edexcel History training events

This term we’ve run several events to support our GCSE, A level and International History qualifications and you can now find recordings of these events on our website.

We will also be making available recordings of the upcoming GCSE History marking training events for teachers who are unable to attend – I will let you know when these recordings become available.

Paper 2 cover sheets for GCSE History mock papers

We recently added some updated Paper 2 cover sheets for centres who wish to use them alongside the new GCSE History mock papers. The cover sheets are provided to students in the exam as an additional insert and they contain instructions and information for students. They can be found in a folder alongside the mock papers which are adapted versions of the Summer 2024 papers reflecting the assessment model for Summer 2025 and beyond.

Economic History Society seeking feedback from A level History teachers

The Economic History Society is seeking feedback from teachers of A level and IB History on how the society can best support the study of economic and social history in schools.

The Society currently provides publications, study packs, conferences and workshops, financing research fellowships and grants, and bursaries and prizes for younger scholars.  In 2023 the Society launched taster days for prospective undergraduates in economic history and related subjects designed as super-curricular activities to assist sixth formers with their university applications.

The Schools and Colleges Committee specifically aims to promote interest in economic and social history in schools and colleges and to provide much needed support for teachers and students of the subject at secondary levels.  They are currently reviewing and updating their support program, and it would help greatly to speak directly to current history teachers to help understand how they might develop and improve their support.  If you are able to spare up to 30 minutes to discuss these topics, please contact David Gagie by emailing drg521@york.ac.uk.

Migration Museum Annual Lecture 2024 – Sunder Katwala asks: ‘Does the history of migration shape its future?’

On 12 November, The Migration Museum held their 2024 annual lecture at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London. In a thought-provoking speech, Sunder Katwala, Director of the thinktank British Future, asked us to consider: if we engage and educate people about the history of immigration, how much can we hope or expect to change how we talk and think about its future?

Free conference on Teaching Indigenous Histories: Saturday 28 June 2025

The University of Sheffield, Schools History Project, Incomindios and the Centre for Indigenous and Settler Colonial Studies at the University of York are collaborating on a project aimed at improving the teaching of Indigenous American histories in the UK. In partnership with educators, academics and Indigenous partners they are empowering teachers to bring Indigenous histories and perspectives into the classroom.

They are currently recruiting educators for a paid opportunity producing resources (principally for KS2 and KS3). The deadline for the application is 1 December. (There is an associated, funded, workshop 20/21 January, offering expert support and mentoring.)

On Saturday 28 June they will be hosting a free conference on Teaching Indigenous Histories, with expert speakers and workshops, supported by the University of Sheffield's Knowledge Exchange Fund. A range of travel bursaries will be available.
