How to apply for post-results services

Please speak to your exams officer if you wish to proceed with a review of marking. Exams officers should contact their Centre Account Specialist on 0344 463 2535 if they require guidance or view the video tutorial below. All applications for reviews of marking must be submitted through Edexcel Online.

Why are reviews of marking results sometimes received very quickly?

Senior examiners who carry out reviews of marking are re-trained prior to commencing reviews. As soon as you submit a request for a review of marking on Edexcel Online, the script is sent to the allocated senior examiner electronically. If they are sitting at their desk, they could receive the script and start reviewing it within minutes of your request.

Appeals

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of a review of marking, you may wish to appeal against the decision. We will allow the head of centre (or designated member of the centre’s senior management team or examinations manager) 14 calendar days from the receipt of the outcome of the review of marking, during which an appeal may be lodged by writing to the following address:

Edexcel Appeals Office
One90 High Holborn
London
WC1V 7BH

or by email to edexcelappeals@pearson.com

We cannot accept appeals directly from candidates, their parents or other third parties acting on their behalf. However, private candidates may appeal directly without the support of the entering centre.

Understanding 9-1 grades

Our support section provides useful information and a video explaining GCSE 9-1 grading.

The GCSE 9-1 History specifications are linear which means that students will not be given grades for each paper they sit and there will no longer be UMS (uniform mark scale) awarded for each paper. The grades only officially exist at subject level, so students that sit the examinations this summer will simply receive an overall grade for the qualification.

On results day, we will publish the official grade boundaries at subject level.

We will also publish notional component boundaries at paper level for all GCSE papers to help you to mark and grade mocks in future series. These will be displayed in the notional grade boundaries document. They will not be displayed on official/formal results documentation.

How do the GCSE papers add up to make a total subject mark?

  • GCSE History Paper 1 has a total raw mark of 52 and is weighted at precisely 30.952% of the qualification.
  • GCSE History Paper 2 has a total raw mark of 64 and is weighted at precisely 38.095% of the qualification.
  • GCSE History Paper 3 has a total raw mark of 52 and is weighted at precisely 30.952% of the qualification.
  • The total GCSE raw mark is therefore a mark of 168.
  • Your students’ marks on GCSE Paper 1, 2 and 3 will simply be added together to give the total subject mark out of 168.
  • The overall grade boundaries will be presented as marks out of 168 and the notional boundaries will be presented as marks out of 52 (Papers 1 and 3) and 64 (Paper 2).

NB the paper weightings above are the precise weightings of each paper. These have been simplified in the specification to reflect the content weightings before including marks for SPAG.

Exam feedback training and exemplars

In autumn 2019, we will be providing recorded exam feedback training for all GCSE papers. Our autumn GCSE networks will also provide an opportunity to discuss the summer exams. We will be providing new exemplar responses from the summer 2019 series for GCSE History on the qualification page.

I wish you and your students a well-deserved break over the summer, and the best of luck on results day.

Best regards,
