Ofqual consultation 

The Department for Education confirmed on 3 October that students will not need to memorise formulae and equations for GCSE maths, physics and combined science for summer 2025, 2026 and 2027. This includes the GCSE maths November resit in each of those years.

The Ofqual consultation on the proposal has now concluded and Ofqual have confirmed that students taking GCSE maths, physics and combined science exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027 will be provided with formulae and revised equation sheets in the form of an Exam Aid

The following arrangements have been confirmed for summer and Novemer 2025.

Exam support materials

For GCSE Maths, students will have access to an exam aid in the exam room, showing all relevant formulae. This will be available as an additional insert on the day of the examination. Students are prohibited from bringing their own copy of the exam aid into the examination room.

The 2025 exam aids can be accessed now for the summer and November 2025 exam series.
