For GCSE Astronomy, the following arrangements have been confirmed for summer 2022:

Advance information

To make exams in 2022 less daunting, students will be told in advance some information about the exam content, helping them to manage their exam preparation. The Department for Education has now confirmed that advance information can be released.

You can now access your advance information for May/June 2022.

The advance information should be read alongside the JCQ teacher guidance and the advance information guidance which was published on 9 December.

Exam support materials

No additional exam support materials will be provided. However, students in 2022 will continue to have access to the Astronomical Data and the Formula Sheet for Astronomy that have been provided in previous exam series.

Observational activities

The requirement for students to undertake two observational activities – one aided and one unaided – remains, and most of the activities can be carried out individually and therefore without COVID risk. However, the requirement can be met by students watching these activities taking place, if it is not possible to undertake the activities safely themselves.

Centres do not need to submit a Centre Declaration Form for the observational activities in 2022.

We will be supporting you and your students every step of the way with the 2022 summer arrangements.

You can find the support which we currently have available to support teaching and learning below.
