These face to face events are designed for teachers who are delivering the A Level English Literature (2015) specification to:

  • explore the coursework assessment criteria 
  • look at examples of marked student coursework
  • carry out some marking on exemplar materials
  • address common issues and frequently-asked questions.

Free A level English Literature networks

Our local networks are an opportunity for colleagues teaching the GCE AS/A level English Literature (2015) specifications to:

  • get together to share good practice
  • meet with the Pearson Edexcel English team.

In this workshop, teachers will explore methods for teaching AO5 in relation to the Shakespeare texts on Component 1. The course will focus on the plays Hamlet and Othello, suggesting teaching methods for developing the skill of evaluating different interpretations.

Delegates will:

  • consolidate their understanding of A05
  • consider ways of using wider critical reading in the classroom to address key challenges for students
  • participate in teaching and learning activities that can be applied in the classroom.

This face-to-face event is designed for teachers who are delivering A Level English Literature. The event will focus on teaching prose and preparing students for this component.

​Delegates will:

  • establish an understanding of the assessment design for this component
  • consider techniques to help students approach prose
  • consolidate their understanding of Assessment Objectives 1, 2, 3 and 4 
  • have the opportunity to ask questions and network with other teachers.

This face-to-face event is designed for teachers who are delivering A level English Literature. The event will focus on teaching unseen poetry and preparing students for this component. 

Delegates will:

  • consider students' previous experience of poetry
  • establish an understanding of students' skills and weaknesses
  • identify key resources
  • look at grouping poems
  • consider techniques to help students approach unseen poetry
  • consolidate their understanding of AO1 and AO4 and how to structure an answer
  • have the opportunity to ask questions and network with other teachers.
