Apprenticeship framework updates

Due to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) restrictions on Apprenticeship updates, all SASE frameworks will be reissued before 31 August 2014, when they will have restricted access for updates.

The following frameworks are due to be reissued by SEMTA in the following weeks:

  • Intermediate Apprenticeship in Improving Operational Performance
  • Advanced Apprenticeship in Operations and Quality Improvement
  • Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture
  • Higher Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture
  • Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeship in Rail Infrastructure Engineering.

BTEC First Extended Certificate and Diploma in Engineering (QCF)

You may be aware that the above qualifications were withdrawn for Apprenticeships on 1 August 2014. The next generation BTEC First qualifications are currently available (funded) for 16-18 year olds. As the new versions are awarded on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), the replacements are ineligible for Apprenticeship frameworks, which are limited to QCF qualifications only.

As we're undergoing a period of Apprenticeship reform, we have decided to include the following qualification as a replacement for the outgoing BTEC Firsts and will be extending these existing qualifications until December 2016 to cover any gaps in provision left by Trailblazer activity.

  • 500/8270/X Pearson BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering (Specialist: Manufacturing Engineering) (QCF)

The qualification contains the units currently in the BTEC First qualifications. Where a unit that you require is not included, this can be used as long as you request it to be added via Meeting Local Needs. You can continue to use the current assessment activities.

For more information on this qualification, please contact your Standards Verifier or Account Specialist.

19+ funding retention

Under the new rules for awarding organisations, we're required to provide at least 5 letters from employers in support of qualifications in order to retain funding as standalone provision for learners aged over 19. This will not affect qualifications' Apprenticeship funding as this will remain.

Within the engineering sector, we are seeking support from employers for the following qualifications in order to retain funding for 2015/16:

501/0585/1

Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Business-Improvement Techniques (QCF)

501/0659/4

Pearson Edexcel Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Manufacturing Operations (QCF)

501/0584/X

Pearson Edexcel Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Business-Improvement Techniques (QCF)

501/0020/8

Sector Development Forums

We held a number of Sector Development Forums in July and are seeking feedback from providers as to when we should hold our next round and what the content of these events should be. Please get in touch with your thoughts and ideas.
