A level Music Technology (2017)

The first brief and logbook for the recording component for the new AS level in Music Technology were released online on 1 June 2017. You can access this from the 'Course materials' section of the Music Technology (2017) pages.

Moderator reports, enquiries about results (EAR), access to scripts (ATS) and understanding marks for summer 2017

The question papers from this summer's assessments will be online and available to download from 11 July and the mark schemes will be available online from 25 July. From results day you can download centre-specific moderator feedback for all your coursework and controlled assessment units. To find out how to do this please read the guidance below.

Moderator Report (E9)

Your moderator writes a report to explain where it was necessary to adjust your centre’s marks. Where possible, your moderator advises you on how you could make improvements for future series.

You can find these on Edexcel Online. Please speak to your examinations officer if you don't have access to Edexcel Online.

Watch our short video on how to find your Moderator Report.

It provides the most detailed analysis available of your students’ performance and helps you to identify topics and skills where your students could benefit from further learning, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their subject.

Principal Moderator/Examiner Report

The Principal Moderator or Examiner also compiles a report on how candidates performed in this year’s examinations. It provides general feedback and highlights good approaches that can be taken forward to future examination series.

You can find these reports on ResultsPlus. Please speak to your examinations officer if you don't have access to ResultsPlus.

Enquiries about results (EAR)

If you're a centre with a concern about a student's results, you can use our post-results services. We have details about these services and their cost online.

Visit the 'Enquiries about results' pages

Access To Scripts

After the summer 2017 results are published in August, centres will be able to view and download scripts which have been marked online free of charge from our Self-Service Portal via Edexcel Online.

The Self-Service Portal will be available until the final post-results deadline for each exam series:

  • Summer 2017 - Thursday 28 September 2017

Customers should save and/or print any scripts they need for teaching and learning purposes before the post-results deadline.

Scripts do not have examiner annotation on them. The marked script allows teachers to evaluate how the student performed on particular questions in relation to what they have been taught; the Principal Examiner's Report and the exemplars that we make available demonstrate how the mark scheme is applied.

If scripts have been marked "traditionally" (i.e. not online), centres will have to request them via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series.

These scripts will also be free of charge, but the final dates to request them are the same as the published JCQ Access to Scripts deadlines.

Visit the 'Access to scripts' pages

Post Results Fees

Details of all updated fees for our post results services  from 1 August 2017 can be found online.

See 'Post results fees' from 1 August 2017

Understanding marks

Get an overview of how we mark assessments and consistently award grades that fairly reflect a learner's performance. This includes setting grade boundaries and converting raw marks to UMS.

Visit the 'Understanding marks' pages

For the new AS level UMS will not be used. The qualification will be awarded at qualification level and the grade boundaries will be set on the achievement from all components. We will issue notional grade boundaries for components.

Training

We now have dates available for training events for mocks marking training for the appraising component of the new specification and online feedback on all components for the new AS level in Music that were assessed this summer. Places are also available to book on our Getting Ready to Teach AS/A level Music Technology events.
