Edexcel A level Music and Music Technology: September 2017 update
Read the latest information on Edexcel A level Music and Music Technology, including key dates, latest news and post-results services.
We are looking for centres to help us provide exemplar material for the new specification of Music Technology and Music.
If your centre is running either the new AS or A level course from September and you are running projects using the sample assessment material, especially for A level component 2, we would like to hear from you if you could provide some student work that could be used as exemplar material.
For Music we would like exemplars of compositions based on the briefs assessing technique from the SAMs. If you have any student work for these briefs it would be very much appreciated. If you are interested please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Summer 2017 results
Your students' results were released to centres on 17 August 2017.
The question paper, mark scheme and Principal Examiner's report for this summer's 6MU02, 6MU03, 6MU05 and 6MU06 Music exams and 6MT01, 6MT02, 6MT03 and 6MT04 Music Technology exams are now available to download from the website.
The grade boundaries for each unit were released on results day and they can be found on the website under 'Support'.
You can also use our mark converter to convert between UMS and raw marks for each unit.
Moderator reports, enquiries about results (EAR), access to scripts (ATS) and understanding marks for summer 2017
From results day you have been able to download centre-specific moderator feedback for all your coursework and controlled assessment units. To find out how to do this please read the guidance below.
Moderator Report (E9)
Your moderator writes a report to explain where it was necessary to adjust your centre’s marks. Where possible, your moderator advises you on how you could make improvements for future series.
You can find these on Edexcel Online. Please speak to your examinations officer if you don't have access to Edexcel Online.
Watch our short video on how to find your Moderator Report.
ResultsPlus is a free online results analysis tool for teachers that gives you a detailed breakdown of your students’ performance in Edexcel exams. It provides the most detailed analysis available of your students’ performance and helps you to identify topics and skills where your students could benefit from further learning, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their subject.
Principal Moderator/Examiner Report
The Principal Moderator or Examiner also compiles a report on how candidates performed in this year’s examinations. It provides general feedback and highlights good approaches that can be taken forward to future examination series.
You can find these reports on ResultsPlus. Please speak to your examinations officer if you don't have access to ResultsPlus.
Watch our short video on how to find the Principal Moderator/Examiner Report.
Enquiries about results (EAR)
If you're a centre with a concern about a student's results, you can use our post-results services. We have details about these services and their cost online.
Access To Scripts
After the summer 2017 results are published in August, centres will be able to view and download scripts which have been marked online free of charge from our Self-Service Portal via Edexcel Online.
The Self-Service Portal will be available until the final post-results deadline for each exam series:
- Summer 2017 - Thursday 28 September 2017
Customers should save and/or print any scripts they need for teaching and learning purposes before the post-results deadline.
Scripts do not have examiner annotation on them. The marked script allows teachers to evaluate how the student performed on particular questions in relation to what they have been taught; the Principal Examiner's Report and the exemplars that we make available demonstrate how the mark scheme is applied.
If scripts have been marked "traditionally" (i.e. not online), centres will have to request them via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online as in previous exam series.
These scripts will also be free of charge, but the final dates to request them are the same as the published JCQ Access to Scripts deadlines.
Post Results Fees
Details of all updated fees for our post results services from 1 August 2017 can be found online.
See 'Post results fees' from 1 August 2017
