As in the June 2024 exam series, we carried out the usual awarding process as well as a review of the standard for 2.0 in relation to the established national standard exemplified by GCSE English Language 1EN0. As you’ll be aware, grade boundaries are set to maintain a national standard in qualifications that is fair to all students.
The grade boundaries for 2.0 in the November 2024 exam series are similar to those set in June 2024. Following the June 2024 exam series, we provided Grade 4 exemplars to exemplify the Grade 4 standard on English 2.0, as well as exam insights training and new training on each assessment objective.

As is usual in the November exam series, most students taking 2.0 were post-16 students who were required to re-sit because they achieved below a grade 4 at the end of Year 11.
We are committed to reforming GCSE English as part of the Curriculum and Assessment Review and recently set out our recommendations for how meaningful change can be brought about. We are keen for English teachers and other sector experts to be part of our conversations.
