March 2022 Economics update

4 March 2022

Following the announcement of the Advance Information in February, this March update has important information for teachers of A level Economics A.

Following further quality checks after the release of the advance information on 7 February we have updated both the AS and A level Economics A advance information documents. In the original advance information documents, quantitative skills had been omitted. We have updated both advance information documents to include quantitative skills. This update has been added to pages 4 and 5 for AS Economics A, and to pages 5, 7 and 9 for A level Economics A. The new version of each document is named as 'Version 3'. Please check that you have downloaded the latest versions.

The update also introduces the 2022 Be The Future Enterprise Challenge which invites your learners to create a social enterprise idea that addresses a social or environmental issue, such as poverty, climate change or inequality.

The 2022 Be The Future challenge is to create a social enterprise idea that addresses a social or environmental issue, such as poverty, climate change or inequality. Learners are encouraged to submit ideas for a social enterprise that could work to resolve these issues.

Submissions will be categorised by learners' Key Stage.

A new International GCSE November series - 2023

We're introducing a regular International GCSE November series, first running in November 2023. This series is being introduced to best meet the needs of students requiring International GCSE exam opportunities outside of the full May/June series and it will replace the existing January series.

There will be no November series in 2022.

Please take a look at the timeline in the document below.

We know that many of you will still want to offer International GCSE exams between May/June 2022 and May/June 2023 and we will therefore continue to run the January series in 2023.

This will be the last January International GCSE series.

Cavendish Conferences, Central London or online (run over 5 days)

Run by expert economics teachers including Ian Marcouse, this course is a serious attempt to prepare teachers to deliver economics for the first time. It includes direct instruction on 8 ‘toolkit’ topics such as market failure, AD/AS analysis, monetary and development economics.

The course is perfect for:

  • business teachers starting to teach Economics for the first time (or first time in ages)
  • teachers switching from other subjects (in recent years, from French, from Geography and from P.E.!)
  • fresh graduates, PGCE or Teach Firsters who need to understand the exact right level for high grades

Delegates are divided into 2 groups: boffins and beginners.

The 3 day course is £399 including lunches and all refreshments and a memory stick packed with resources.
