New BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction (2018) Specification
In response to centres and professional bodies, we have made the following modifications to the Higher Nationals in Construction and the Built Environment specification.
BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction (2018) vs BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction and the Built Environmnet
Following modifications to the HN Construction and the Built Environment qualification:
The Level 4 Building Services Pathway has been split into separate Heating, Ventilation & Air-conditioning (HVAC) and Electrical pathways. This matches the pathway structure of Level 5;
Two new units have been developed to provide greater scientific content to support the Building Services pathways. These are:
- Unit 48: Scientific Principles for Building Services - Level 4, mandatory ‘Specialist’ unit for the Level 4 Building Services pathways;
- Unit 49: Thermofluids and Acoustics - Level 5, mandatory ‘Specialist’ unit for the Level 5 Building Services (HVAC) pathway.
Unit 3: Science and Materials has been removed from the mandatory Core units. This unit will now be a mandatory Specialist unit for the Level 4 Civil Engineering pathway, and available as an Optional Unit for other pathways.
Additional content has been added to the Programme Specification to identify the role of professional bodies in supporting centres and students.
To avoid confusion, and meet the requirements of Ofqual, the qualification has been re-titled to the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction. The specification is available on the Pearson Qualifications Website.
