New BTEC Nationals in Children’s Play, Learning and Development from 2016

The new BTEC Nationals in Children’s Play, Learning and Development specifications are now available for first teaching from September 2016. There is a specification for each size of the qualification. You can also access the Sample Assessment Materials for the externally assessed units.

There is new sample material for Unit 1 (external unit), which you can find in the course materials on the Children's Play, Learning and Development (2016) NQF qualification page. Keep an eye on this page as we are adding new resources all the time.

We are extending the last registrations date for the existing qualification to 31 December 2016 to ensure you have continuity of provision and plenty of time to plan your transition to the new qualification.

CPLD Networking Event

There is one remaining date for the CPLD Networking events, this will take place in Somerset College, Somerset on 26 April, from 10am until 1pm.

If you would like to register your attendance at this event, please email fecustomertrainingevents@pearson.com with ‘CPLD Networking Event’ in the title.

2018 performance tables

We are pleased to announce that the BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma CPLD has made it onto the 2018 Performance tables. Find out more about the latest table results

BTEC CPLD assessment improvements

As a result of feedback, improvements have been made to the external assessment Unit 1 for BTEC National CPLD (2014).

These changes will be live in the summer series exams; more information about these changes and new paperwork including a new Sample Assessment and Mark Scheme can be found on the Nursery World website

APPG for Nursery Education

An All Party Parliamentary Group has been set up to examine the role of nursery education in raising achievement and improving outcomes for the most disadvantaged children. This will impact on provision for early years, and practice changes. For more information, read this Nursery World article

FAQs

Can my HNC learners gain a licence to practice with the new Advanced Practice in Early Years Education?

Existing centres offering the current Higher National Certificate (which does not confer licence to practice) can opt to transfer students over to the new Certificate (which will confer licence to practice) during the academic year. Students can then top-up to the new HND on launch next year.

As always, if you have any questions, queries or comments, please do let me know at teachingchildcare@pearson.com

Best wishes,
Rachel
