Summer 2016 Economics exams

The summer 2016 exam series for Economics students will stretch over May and June, a time when sporting distractions can divert attention away from revision. It may be wise to bear these in mind when planning revision sessions or when helping students plan their revision timetables.

GCE (2015) Economics

The summer 2016 exam series will be the first AS exams for the new specifications. The major distractions will be the:

  • first Test against Sri Lanka at Headingley starting on 19 May
  • FA Cup Final on 21 May .

The first A level exams will take place in summer 2017.

The summer 2016 exam series provides resit opportunities for AS units and brings the 2008 qualification to an end with this timeline for resits:

Revision for the AS units will need to factor in the first Test and the FA Cup Final (as above).

Preparation for the A2 units will be competing with the Euro 2016 finals in France: 

  • The first two England games are on 11 June and 16 June, with the third game against Slovakia on 20 June providing a nice reward after the unit 3 paper. 
  • It will be important not to let the Italy v Ireland game the night before the unit 4 paper take precedence over Economics revision.

Preparation for the A2 units will be competing with the Euro 2016 finals in France:

  • The first England game against Russia is on 11 June, followed by games against Wales (16 June) and Slovakia (20 June). These are nicely spaced out to allow for welcome breaks from revision.
  • However, there are interesting games to distract your students on the night before each exam - Ireland play Sweden on 13 June, and Northern Ireland play Germany on 21 June.

It is perhaps fortunate that the knockout phase of the Euro 2016 finals starts after the last exam, and for tennis fans Wimbledon fortnight does not start until Monday 27 June.
