I have just received my learners' Unit 2 results and I am unhappy with them. What can I do?

You can:

  • Re-enter your learners for the unit (it is available on demand).
  • Request a clerical review (EAR1)
  • Request a review of marking (EAR2).

Enquiries About Results

You will need to ensure that you have applied for this post-results service by 20 September 2016, as applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

The Enquiry About Results (EAR) services are available to you are:

  • a clerical review (EAR1) which constitutes a check of all clerical procedures that lead to the issue of a result. This service costs £10.30 per learner.
  • a review of marking (EAR2) which includes a clerical re-check (EAR1) and a review of marking of the components of the exam by a senior examiner.  This service costs £33.20.

When can the learners resit unit 2 for NQF BTEC Firsts in Business?

Unit 2 tests are available on demand.

How many times can learners resit?

At the moment you can resit an external unit as many times as you wish. However, Ofqual are closely monitoring this, and the situation may change in the future.

Same mark, different grades?

It is possible for learners to receive different grades, but the same subject mark, for the Unit 2 onscreen on-demand test. This is because there are several different versions of a test available at any one time, and these may have different grade boundaries.

There is more information about onscreen test grade boundaries on our support pages.

I want my students to resit unit 2; how do I this if I have claimed certification?

Where a certification claim has been made for an NQF BTEC qualification, but the learner wants to resit an externally assessed unit to improve their grade, you firstly need to decline their overall qualification grade. You may decline the grade before the certificate is issued; for a learner receiving their results in August, you should decline the grade by emailing the request to examsofficers@pearson.com before the end of September if the learner intends to resit an external assessment.

After certification, learners who want to reject the grade(s) achieved must make a request to decline the grade(s) through their centre. These requests need to be made within five weeks of the certification issue date. You'll need to return all certification documentation to us, along with a covering letter explaining why the grade(s) should be declined.

We'll process all requests that we receive within five weeks of the certification issue date free of charge. If you make a request after that, we can only accept it while the learner registration and programme approval is still valid and we will charge a duplicate certificate fee.
