Dual registration is available for learners on our BTEC Nationals in Children’s Play, Learning and Development who need to achieve occupational competence.

Our BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development (Certificate QN: 600/5538/8 or Diploma QN: 600/5933/3) can be co-delivered with the Edexcel Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF) (QN: 500/9504/3).

This is necessary because the Teaching Agency in England is not currently accepting
new qualifications as ‘full and relevant’ and conferring occupational competence for the
early years sector, so learners are required to achieve the Children and Young People’s Workforce qualification (CYPW).

We have asked the Teaching Agency to recognise the BTEC National Certificate and
Diploma as ‘full and relevant’ in their own right, without the need for co-delivery with the CYPW, and we'll update you on this when we know more.

Simple dual registration available

For centres intending to deliver the new BTEC National Certificate/Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development from September 2012, dual registration with the CYPW will be available through a simple system.

Important information for your registry and/or exams officer

Instead of registering your students using the usual codes for the individual courses, you will need to register them using the relevant scheme code, which enables dual registration for both courses.

Qualification size being co-delivered with the CYPW
Scheme code
National Certificate MAS06491
National Diploma MAS06492
  • If you normally register by EDIFACT format, this method is still supported, and we recommend that you register learners using the correct scheme number. We're unable to support registrations using the JCQ format.
  • If you register via Edexcel Online, you’ll find the scheme number within the Apprenticeships qualification menu.
You still have the option to only register learners on the BTEC Level 3 National
Certificate/Diploma in CPLD without dual registration with the CYPW, but should note
that the BTEC qualifications do not currently confer occupational competence in their
own right.

Approval for centres prior to dual registration

If your centre hasn't previously delivered the BTEC Nationals in Children’s Care, Learning and Development or the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF), you'll need to apply for approval before registering learners. Learn more about the approvals process.

We’re here to help

You’ll find co-delivery materials illustrating how to deliver the two qualifications in the BTEC Nationals CPLD pages.

If you’d like to discuss your needs and any queries you may have about the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Children’s Play, Learning and Development (CPLD), email Kate Elsmore, Childcare subject advisor, at TeachingChildcare@Pearson.com.
