Qualification delivery in 2021-22

The UK Government recently published arrangements for the assessment and awarding of vocational qualifications which confirmed that exams and assessments will go ahead as planned for the academic year 2021-22.

Although Unit Teacher Assessment Grades (UTAGs) will no longer apply, there is recognition that there could be future disruption to teaching and learning, as centres and students are affected by self-isolation rules that still apply.

We created a guidance document to provide support for centres to maintain the quality of provision for 2021-22 academic year.

Please note that UTAGs can only be used for assessments that took place between 1 August 2020 and 31 August 2021. You can submit results for these assessments via Edexcel Online until 30 September; please note that the functionality to record UTAGs will be disabled after that date.

Office for Students' Challenge Competition

The Office for Students recently launched a Challenge Competition which aims to trial higher education short courses. The competition is part of the government’s approach to delivering the Lifelong Loan Entitlement.

The short courses should be part of a designated qualification, such as Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals, and we're excited to support our customers to formulate bid submissions to the OfS.

Please note that deadline for submissions is 28 September.

Welcoming new students

For many of you, September marks the start of the next academic year, and this year we created a video to welcome HN students to the Pearson family. We hope the video can provide inspiration as well as practical information about how to access certain resources, making it a great resource to share with your students.

Ministry recognition in Jordan

Pearson has recently gained approval and recognition from the Kingdom of Jordan’s Ministry of Education for Pearson’s BTEC Higher National qualifications at HNC and HND level, as an equivalent to the intermediate diploma degree in Jordan. This recognition would apply to BTEC Higher National qualifications that are not embedded in a national degree programme.

  • Preeya, an engineer who went on to complete a Masters degree.
  • Lin, a BTEC Award winner who works for a furniture design business in Myanmar.

We hope that the stories provide inspiration to your students, showing what future is possible after completing their Higher National qualification.
