
BTEC Awards 2020 winners
The 10th annual BTEC Awards ceremony took place on Thursday 25 June and celebrated the hard work and commitment of teachers, tutors, schools, colleges, training providers and learners across the globe. This year we had 17 inspirational Gold Award winners whose passion and dedication to BTEC is truly worthy of celebration.

Lin Min Khant
BTEC Construction Learner of the Year & Young BTEC Learner of the Year 2020
Lin's HND gave him the confidence to pursue a newfound and self-taught love for interior and furniture design. He exhibited his ideas as a new designer in the Myanmar International Furniture Expo. He is currently the only member under 20 in the Myanmar Furniture Industry Association.

Marium Shafique
BTEC Business and Enterprise Learner of the Year & Adult BTEC Learner of the Year 2020
Marium arrived in the UK in 2015 with limited English. She has since achieved an array of qualifications including a Triple Distinction in her BTEC. She also applies the same level of dedication in giving back, recently delivering IT classes voluntarily to the elderly in her community.

Aaron Wilson
BTEC Art and Design Learner of the Year 2020
Described as a student who never settles for the easy option and always challenges himself, Aaron has taken a childhood love for video games and, through sheer determination and talent, turned that passion into a promising career. He is a mentor and inspiration to many others.

Andrea Rodrigues
BTEC IT and Computing Learner of the Year 2020
Andrea continues to excel, consistently achieving top grades in her units. Her passion for Computer Science education is recognised by the Royal Institution, for whom she helped develop and deliver the first of a national set of Primary Computing Masterclasses.

Caitlin Marsh Brown
BTEC Engineering Learner of the Year 2020
Caitlin chose a BTEC in Engineering because of her love of maths and science and pushed herself to achieve distinctions in all her units. She volunteers at local charities, has raised money for Sports Relief and joined the Special Olympics winning two Silver Medals this year.

Cambridge House Community College
BTEC School of the Year 2020
The BTEC provision at Cambridge House has developed from a small centre with just five students into a respected provider of alternative pathways into universities across the world. Its success has been built on a foundation of enthusiasm, kindness and community spirit.

Charis Pulei
BTEC Performing Arts Learner of the Year 2020
During her BTEC Performing Arts course, Charis’ passion for the theatre and for helping others has won the admiration of her teachers and peers. She has illustrated and published her own children’s book, taken the lead role in her school plays and organised creative arts trips.

Cooper Sommerville
BTEC Public Services Learner of the Year 2020
Cooper shows great support to his peers, encouraging them to achieve the highest grades they can while maintaining consistently high grades himself on his BTEC course. He embodies and upholds the core values of the Public Services and has recently been accepted into the RAF.

Emily Campbell
BTEC Child and Social Care Learner of the Year 2020
Emily is an exemplary school ambassador and highly committed student. In addition to studying a BTEC and achieving distinction in all her units, Emily also found time to pioneer a campaign for emotional health, volunteer in a children’s hospice, fundraise and mentor young students.

Georgina Green
BTEC Land-based Learner of the Year 2020
Georgina is an exceptionally dedicated student, achieving the highest grades in all her subject areas and taking on extra qualifications as part of her study programme. She represents her college at public events, as well as supporting her peers in her role as student ambassador.

Hannah Whyatt
BTEC Science Learner of the Year 2020
Hannah has been praised as a positive role model for her peers, even stepping in to deliver learning to the class when her teacher was ill. She displayed exceptional skill and precision in all her science work and was always happy to offer help and advice to her classmates.

James Booty
BTEC Tutor of the Year
James revolutionised the BTEC Public Services programme at Basingstoke College of Technology by creating a real-world operations room to simulate major incidents, where students learn to react to high-pressure scenarios. He built an extensive network of contacts with constabularies, charities and rescue providers, allowing his students to enrich their studies through work experience.

Jessica Elmore
BTEC Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Learner of the Year 2020
Jessica has a huge amount of determination and drive, which she focused very much on her studies and wider community. Jess is president of the Interact Club, a group of students who have come together voluntarily to do good in their local, national and worldwide community.

Blackpool Sixth Form College
BTEC College of the Year 2020
In recent years, this college has become an outstanding example of everything that BTEC and vocational learning stand for, underpinned by inspiring, nurturing and committed teaching in the sector. Its culture is deeply inclusive and encouraging, with students reporting that "the support here is endless".

Jonathan Morris
BTEC Creative Media Learner of the Year 2020
Jonathan studied a BTEC in Creative Media and is now an incredible filmmaker and editor. Over two years, his information videos, product reviews and 'Disability talks' on his YouTube channel, Ability Street, have achieved over 93,000 views.

Kimberley Stephens
BTEC Teacher of the Year 2020
Kimberly has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact on the lives of her students. Her aspirational leadership has seen standards rise across the school as she has pioneered the development of BTEC provision in seven other subject areas.

Stefanie McCluskey
BTEC Sport Learner of the Year 2020
Stefanie runs her own successful personal training business, whilst at the same time achieving excellent results at college studying for her BTEC. Stefanie coaches children and a range of clients, making her a role model to people of all ages, physical abilities and backgrounds.
