As you know, the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) has been replaced by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), and qualifications that were previously on the QCF have already been, or are in the process of being, migrated onto the RQF.

Qualifications on the RQF are expressed in terms of Total Qualification Time (TQT) and where appropriate, Guided Learning (GL) and credit.

TQT is the total amount of time it can be reasonably expected for a learner to take to achieve the qualification. It includes:

• Guided Learning, where a learner is being taught by a tutor or is otherwise participating in training under the immediate guidance or supervision of a tutor. This includes assessment activity undertaken under the immediate guidance or supervision of a tutor/assessor.

and

• an estimate of the number of hours a learner will reasonably be likely to spend in preparation, study or other form of participation in training, including assessment, that is not under the immediate guidance or supervision of a tutor.

Each unit has been assigned a Guided Learning value. The new Guided Learning value is divided by 10 to calculate a credit value for each unit.

In some instances, the new RQF definition of Guided Learning means that the Guided Learning and credit values of units and qualifications on the RQF are different to the Guided Learning Hours and credit values on the QCF, although there are no changes to the content of the units and qualifications themselves.

Impact of the RQF on the Pearson BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Providing Security Services

The following changes to the Guided Learning and/or credit value have been made to the three units below that appear within the qualification as a result of the migration to the RQF. There have been no changes to the Guided Learning or credit value of any other units.

There have been no changes to the content of the units, or to the rule of combination for the qualification. Learners are still required to achieve a minimum of 15 credits to achieve the qualification. The updated structure is available here.

Therefore if learners choose the CCTV or the Door Supervisor unit from Group B you MUST check which optional units they take and ensure they achieve a total of 15 credits to achieve the qualification. This may mean that they need to take one additional credit/unit than would have previously been required under the QCF, depending on which optional units have been chosen.

This change will apply to ALL learners who wish to claim certification from 1st March 2018 REGARDLESS OF WHEN THEY WERE REGISTERED ON THE QUALIFICATION.

For example, a learner who was registered on 1st September 2017 and wishes to claim certification on 2nd March 2018 with the following units would have their claim rejected as they have not met the minimum 15 credit requirement:
