The portal can only be accessed by Edexcel Online users who have the Exam Viewer profile ticked on Edexcel Online. Your exams officer gives teachers access to Exam Viewer.

Please note that these scripts do not contain examiners' annotations.

If scripts have been marked 'traditionally' (i.e. not online), you will have to request them, free of charge, via the Post Results section of Edexcel Online.

Candidate consent

Candidate consent is required before requesting script copies, as per section 6.2.1 of the JCQ's Post-Results Services guide. Candidate consent can only be obtained after results have been published.

Access to student scripts can support future teaching and learning as well as inform any decisions on a potential review of marking.

Examiners' reports

1. To download examiners' reports on examined components on results day go to ResultsPlus and sign in using your Edexcel Online username and password. If you've forgotten your password you can generate a reminder from Edexcel Online by selecting 'forgot password'. Then follow the steps below.

Although Paper 2 (Speaking) is technically considered as 'non-examination assessment' (NEA) at GCSE, no individual centre moderator reports are produced as the candidates' oral work is all externally examined rather than internally marked. Consequently, a general examiner report is produced for the speaking paper. You should, however, be able to discover how well your students have performed against each of the assessment criteria via ResultsPlus.

ResultsPlus step-by-step guide

2. Once you are logged in under your centre, select 'ResultsPlus Analysis'.

How to apply for post-results services

Please speak to your exams officer if you wish to proceed with a review of marking. Exams officers should contact their Centre Account Specialist on 0344 463 2535 if they require guidance or view the video tutorial below. All applications for reviews of marking must be submitted through Edexcel Online.

Why are reviews of marking results sometimes received very quickly?

Senior examiners who carry out reviews of marking are re-trained prior to commencing reviews. As soon as you submit a request for a review of marking on Edexcel Online, the script is sent to the allocated senior examiner electronically. If they are sitting at their desk, they could receive the script and start reviewing it within minutes of your request.

Appeals

If you are dissatisfied with the outcome of a review of marking, you may wish to appeal against the decision. We will allow the head of centre (or designated member of the centre’s senior management team or examinations manager) 14 calendar days from the receipt of the outcome of the review of marking, during which an appeal may be lodged by writing to the following address:

Edexcel Appeals Office
One90 High Holborn
London
WC1V 7BH

or by email to edexcelappeals@pearson.com

We cannot accept appeals directly from candidates, their parents or other third parties acting on their behalf. However, private candidates may appeal directly without the support of the entering centre.

Understanding 9-1 grades

Our support section provides useful information and a video explaining GCSE 9-1 grading.

The GCSE 9-1 language specifications are linear which means that students will not be given grades for each paper they sit and there will no longer be UMS (uniform mark scale) awarded for each paper. The grades only officially exist at subject level, so students that sit the examinations this summer will simply receive an overall grade for the qualification.

On results day, we will publish the official grade boundaries at subject level.

We will also publish notional component boundaries at paper level for all GCSE papers to help you to mark and grade mocks in future series. These will be displayed in the notional grade boundaries document. They will not be displayed on formal results documentation.

How do the 9-1 GCSE language papers add up to make a total subject mark?

  • Paper 1 (Listening) has a total raw mark of 50 and is weighted at precisely 25% of the qualification.
  • Paper 2 (Speaking) has a total raw mark of 70 and is weighted at precisely 25% of the qualification.
  • Paper 3 (Reading) has a total raw mark of 50 and is weighted at precisely 25% of the qualification
  • Paper 4 (Writing) has a total raw mark of 60 and is weighted at precisely 25% of the qualification.
  • The total GCSE raw mark is therefore a mark of 230.
As advised in the specification, the raw marks across different papers will be scaled to ensure that each paper equates to 25% of the total qualification.

Exam feedback, training and more

In addition to the production of full examiner reports for every paper across all language GCSEs, we will be providing special exam feedback training podcasts for GCSE French, German and Spanish in the autumn term. Autumn GCSE network support meetings are also being planned that will focus on developing students' writing skills and further samples of student work (French, German and Spanish) with linked examiner commentaries will be uploaded next term.

I wish you and your students a pleasant break over the summer and the best of luck on results day.

Best wishes
