Reprinting reading passages & providing planning boxes for writing
In response to feedback from teachers and to further support students we are happy to inform you that we have made some small changes to the format of some of the questions on 1EN0 which will feature from the November 2022 exam series. These features have been very well received by both teachers and students on our alternative GCSE 2.0.

Definitive lists of writing task types for 1EN0 and 2.0
In response to feedback from teachers and to help students prepare for assessments, we will publish a definitive list of the writing task types that could feature in the Paper 2 (1EN0) or Paper 1 exam (2.0).

We’ll be in touch very soon with the details and will post updated specifications (1EN0 & 2.0) and sample assessment materials (1EN0).

We have 12 events on offer in July and September: ‘New to’, ‘How to apply the mark scheme’, ‘Launch’ for 2.0 and ‘Autumn networks’.

International GCSE

Following years of research, a track record of millions of onscreen assessments taken in different forms worldwide, and our successful pilot this year, we’re excited to announce that you’ll have the option of onscreen assessment for your students sitting International GCSE English Language A and English Literature from May/June 2023. Look out for further information on this from us in the next few weeks.

In January 2023, we return to the ‘normal’ assessment of English Language A, English Language B and English Literature. This means that you will need to submit video-recordings of students completing the optional spoken language endorsement on the Learner Work Transfer portal (LWT); and students sitting English Literature will be assessed on Part 3 anthology poetry, with Paper 4ET1 01 returning to its usual format and duration.

Please make sure you’ve seen the changes and that you are using issue 4 of the specification for students certificating from May/June 2024.
